About Skerries Community College

Communication with Parents

Education is an ongoing process, where the school complements and extends the ideals of the home. Parents and teachers work together as partners in education. Regular communication between school and home is facilitated by:

  • Regular letters to all parents from the principal on events and activities.
  • Letters to the parents of particular year groups addressing issues of concern to that year group.
  • Letters from Year heads to parents regarding unexplained or persistent student absences.
  • Parent-Teacher meetings for each year group.
  • Parent Nights for each year group. Parents of each of the year groups are invited in to night-time meetings with the Principal, Counsellors and Year Head Teams to explore issues relevant to each particular Year Group. Outside speakers are often invited to address the groups.
  • Access to all parent’s land and mobile telephone numbers.
  • Use of the college journal. The journal is designed to accommodate notes and comments to and from parents.
  • School Reports issued at Christmas, February and Summer.
  • Individual appointments. Parents are always welcome to contact the college office in order to make an appointment with the Principal, Deputy Principal or a member of staff.
  • Progress reports on individual students when requested.
  • Attendance reports on individual students when requested.
  • Behaviour reports on individual students when requested.
  • Regular meetings of the Parent’s Association.
  • Parents representatives on the Board of Management.
  • Notices in the weekly parish bulletin.
  • Articles and photographs published in local newspapers.
  • A college website which is currently in development.
